The Shortlist

It is time! The 10 best stories are picked out by the jury and put on a shortlist. 

Now it is time for the audience to choose the story they like best! Click on the title and you can read the story. Let us know which story you like best. You can vote from the 5th of March till the 12th of March. The voting ballot will open soon.

The definitive score will be announced at the Cosy Corner during Dutch Comic Con 2017! On the saturday, the stories will be read in the Cosy Corner and during the Sunday, the winner will be announced.

Voting is now closed


  • Submit your story between December 1st 2016 and February 1st 2017.
  • An expert jury will select the ten best stories by February 28th.
  • The public can vote for their shortlist favorite March 5-12.
  • Ten shortlisted authors win free entrance to Dutch Comic Con.
  • Plus 5 copies of the short story book, to be made on the Espresso Book Machine at The American Book Center (ABC). This book will probably be a mixture of stories written in Dutch and English.
  • The winner will be announced at Dutch Comic Con March 25 2017.
  • The winner of the jury + public prize wins – on top of the free entrance and 5 copies of the Fantastic Short Story Competition book – a € 75,- book certificate from ABC. 


  • Maximum 1000 words per story.
  • Written in either English or Dutch.
  • The story must fall under fantastic genre descriptions (horror, science fiction, fantasy and related).
  • No editing is offered before publication.
  • Submit your story in Word or PDF.
  • Limited to one entry per participant.
  • Employees of ABC and sponsoring organizations are excluded.
