Cobie Smulders is a Canadian actress known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky in the hit television series, How I Met Your Mother, as well as her portrayal of S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Born on April 3, 1982, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Smulders began her career in modeling before transitioning into acting. She made her acting debut in the early 2000s with small roles in television shows and movies such as Special Unit 2 and Walking Tall. However, it wasn’t until she landed the role of Robin Scherbatsky in How I Met Your Mother in 2005 that she gained widespread recognition.

Smulders played Robin, a news anchor and one of the five main characters of the show, for all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother, which ran from 2005 to 2014. Her performance in the series earned her critical acclaim, and she was nominated for several awards, including a People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Comedy Actress in 2014.

While working on How I Met Your Mother, Smulders also began to establish herself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She first appeared as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill in the 2012 film The Avengers, and went on to reprise the role in several other Marvel items, including Secret Invasion, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. In addition to her work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Smulders has also appeared in other movies such as Safe Haven and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.

Smulders has also appeared in several television shows, including Friends from College, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Stumptown, in which she played the lead role of Dex Parios. The latter show earned Smulders a nomination for a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series in 2020.

In addition to her acting work, Smulders has also been involved in various charitable causes. She has worked with organizations such as Oceana, which focuses on ocean conservation, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
