Heroes Game Nights are one of the ways to stay connected with our heroes all year round. Even when there is no event weekend, we still want to provide a platform for people to meet, play and share their love for games together. That is exactly what Heroes Game Nights are about: Jumping online with the Heroes Community, (re)discovering different games and meeting new people to play with!

In this article we will walk you through what Heroes Game Nights are, how they work and what has been played so far.

A Heroes-first approach

The Heroes Game Nights was a concept that grew out of something bigger: our official Discord server. We launched our server in October last year as a central place for the Heroes Dutch Comic Con community to hang out. It is the platform where fans can talk about pretty much everything Heroes-related and beyond: from general chats and event announcements to guest suggestions and practical info.

On top of that, the server hosts lots of different fandoms. You will find channels for Dungeons & Dragons, K-pop, comic books, Pokémon, cosplay and much more. The Discord has become a social hub where people can share their passions, ask questions, exchange tips and get to know each other.

The Heroes Game Nights fit perfectly into that environment. They are hosted from within the Discord server, using the platform where our heroes already talk every day. This makes Heroes Game Nights a natural extension of the community: we do not just talk about games, we actually play them together.

How the Game Nights work

Because the Game Nights are organized with a Heroes-first approach, it makes sense that the community decides what we play. Each month, members of the server can nominate their favorite game as a suggestion for the next Heroes Game Night. Other members can then show their support by backing those nominations.

After about two weeks of nominations, the HDCC-team looks at which 5 titles received the most nominations. That shortlist is put to a community vote after. Everyone in the server can take part, and the game that receives the most votes becomes the game for that month’s Heroes Game Night.

Once a title is selected, there is one more poll to find the best day and time so we make sure most people can join. When the date and time is set, we announce all information and build up towards the upcoming game night.

Importantly, a game not being chosen as the main title for that month does not mean it cannot be played, in the dedicated thread fans of the title can continue to talk and look for a stack. A good example is Helldivers 2: even outside the official Game Nights, several squads formed in the server and set out to defend Super Earth together.

What we have played so far

So far, only two Heroes Game Nights have been organized, with a third on the way. That does not stop us however, from sharing some highlights from the past two months.

Our very first Game Night hosted Dead by Daylight. It brought together a mix of long-time killers and seasoned survivors together with people who had never touched the game before. Veterans helped newcomers which resulted in an evening full of screams, murder and also successful extractions.

The second Game Night took us to space with Among Us. This time we saw multiple full lobbies filling up, with people trying to read each other (or just watch them on the security cameras), accuse their friends and bluff their way through emergency meetings. While there was some excellent detectives on scene, there still, after all these years, are plenty of crewmates struggling to swipe their cards.

Alongside these official nights, the Discord has also become a place where people can organize their own sessions in other titles. Members have found new teammates in games such as Helldivers 2, League of Legends, VALORANT, Overwatch, Beat Saber and many more. In that sense, Heroes Game Nights are not just a single night a month, but can be as often as you want it to be!

How to join the Heroes Game Nights

If you want to be part of the Heroes Game Nights, the first step is simply joining our Discord server. Once you are in, you can explore all the different channels, if you are looking for the Heroes Game Nights specifically, you can scroll right down to the gaming channels. Here you can nominate your favorite games, or back other titles by upvoting them, and of course make sure to keep track of the Gaming News channel for all Heroes Gaming Night updates!

We hope to see you in the Discord – and in one of our next Heroes Game Nights. 🎮
