A spine-chilling hello to you, dear Comic Con visitor! My name is Steven Friedman and I'm the author of THE SHIVERING; a brand new series of horror books aimed at brave readers aged nine and up. And when I say 'up', I mean it, because these tales of terror offer just as much gruesome fun for older fright-fanatics!
What is The Shivering, you ask? It's what the mysterious old antiquarian Gustaaf Lezaar calls his one-of-a-kind cabinet of curiosities, locked away in a backroom of his dusty antique store Forgotten Things. It houses his collection of cursed objects, acquired during his many travels all over the world. And each object has its own sinister story to tell. Stories that Lezaar shares with Mats and Lumen, two brave souls who dared to enter Forgotten Things, when every child in town knew to stay away from the eccentric shop owner.
Lezaar shows Mats and Lumen a shriveled heart in a jar to introduce the first story - and the first book in the series, BLOEDBUREN (BLOOD NEXT DOOR), which revolves around the 11-year-old Zora, who's utterly convinced her new neighbors are real, actual vampires! They only come out at night, have skin as pale as snow and even drag caskets into their house. Unfortunately for Zora, people have a hard time believing her anymore. She has somewhat of a wild imagination, which has gotten her into trouble many times. The only one who does believe her is her best friend Bink. Together, they risk their lives trying to uncover the mystery of the blood-sucking menace next door.
The second book in the series, THE NEST, revolves around eight-legged monsters known as spiders. Eleven-year-old Charlie can’t stand them. And Bob, his brother Morris’s enormous pet tarantula? He’s Charlie’s worst nightmare! But Charlie is about to face his deepest fear, because Bob is a harmless little sweetheart compared to the horror lurking deep in the woods… There, secret experiments have been carried out to create a species of superintelligent arachnids. And when these monsters escape, the sleepy little village Charlie calls home turns out to be the perfect breeding ground for the eight-legged horrors.
